2019 Update

December 21, 2018

We want you to know how your support has had a huge impact on our ability to fulfill our plans to reach kids here in Snohomish County. We are so thankful for all the donations to our Second Chance Sale in January that raised over $2500 for student activities and equipment for The Spot Teen Drop-in Center. Several students were able to attend our winter retreat that couldn’t have otherwise attended.

The Spot, Teen Drop-in Center continues to be a blessing to over 30 students daily from Snohomish High School needing a warm and safe place to go after school in Snohomish. Cody Briggs, the youth director at Central Faith Church serves as the Spot Director and is adding many new activities that the students enjoy.

Thanks to your generous contributions Ripple Ministries supplies over $50 a month in food supplies and sponsors Taco Tuesdays which has been a big hit with the kids!

Since September restaurants from Snohomish have joined forces with us to provide hot meals for students coming to the Spot. Thank you to Grilla Bites, Little Ceasars, Trails End Tap House and Alfy’s Pizza for your generosity!

The Ripple Golf Classic:

Thank You to all who participated in a fun and competitive day on the links at our First Annual Ripple Ministries Golf Classic. Thanks to our champs, Mike Jackson, Matt Epstein, Mike Gove and Jay Harrison for giving their all on the course and in our fundraising effort. We are also grateful to our hole sponsors, Pro Star Insurance, UBS Capstone Wealth Management and Tracy Quickstad, DDS who were instrumental to a successful first event. We are already planning our next event for September 9th, 2019 at Mill Creek CC.

Up and Running:

After many months of organizing, researching, and planning by our Director of Programming, Mike Edwards and instructors, Chris Gove and Ashley Pederson, our first class of the Teen Storytellers Project, Intro to Filmmaking started on January 9th at The Spot Teen Drop-in Center. We were able to purchase iPads that allow each student to work on an individual project from pre to post production. With current and future funding, we will purchase the equipment and computers needed to include more students and expand our reach.

In the Works:

The feedback our current students give us in the pilot program will be extremely valuable as we work with Jaime Fajardo, Student Enrichment coordinator for Denny Juvenile Justice Center. We are working with his staff to create a film education program for students involved in the justice system. Visit our website and sign up for our email newsletter for continued updates.

Future Plans:

Intro to Filmmaking is the first in a three-part series of courses which will roll out over the coming year and continue to be repeated. The next course, Intro to Documentary Filmmaking will take the students deeper into the art of telling a meaningful story through film. Our culminating experience will be a mission trip which will assemble a team of adult and student filmmakers to tell the story of an organization making a difference somewhere in the world. In addition, it is our goal to schedule special sessions and workshops featuring guest instructors who represent a variety of professional skill sets.

Digital Loft:

We are working with Central Faith Church in Snohomish which houses The Spot to create a space dedicated to teen filmmaking and individual learning. The space is above the current youth center allowing convenient access for our students. We hope to have the space improved and technology in place by May of 2019. If you can contribute funds materials or skills to this project, please email or call our Executive Director, Carrie Gove at the email address or phone number listed above.
